Members of the family are characterized by properties such as vector transmission and particle morphology. The name Potyviridae comes from the "Potato virus Y group." Potyviridae is a family of positive-strand RNA viruses that encompasses more than 30% of known plant viruses, many of which are of great agricultural significance.
